We suggest checking your oil and water levels before undertaking a long trip, or after 1000 miles. This simple check can increase the longevity and performance of your engine and will reduce the risk of a breakdown.

This will all be checked during an interim or full service, so if this is due for your vehicle, get it booked with us, and we will take care of this for you.

We suggest checking your oil and water levels on level ground when the engine is cool. When you top up, ensure you are using the right type of oil for your car/engine.

It is very easy to check your oil and see if it needs changing. When you use your dip stick, use a rag to clean it off, re-dip your stick and pull it out. If your oil is dark and lumpy or dirty looking, it might be time for an oil change.

Other signs to look out for include:

  • Engine noises that are unusual
  • Exhaust smoke
  • Check engine light has illuminated
  • Very low oil levels
  • Oil smell inside the vehicle

An oil change is something that we can handle for you, simply get in touch to book your vehicle in with us.

Checking your tyre pressure when your car is hot could give you a false reading. This is because your tyre pressure increases with usage and temperature increases. To ensure a more accurate tyre pressure reading, we suggest checking your tyres when they are cool or haven’t been used for a while.

The legal minimum tread depth is 1.6 mm. Although this is legal, this is the minimum and any lower than this could become dangerous and illegal. If your tread depth is near this, we would suggest getting your tyres changed.
